About Me
Meet Matt Mayo
I'm a mortgage broker with United American Mortgage, based in Long Beach, California. I got into this industry because I believe everyone deserves access to the best loan options — not just the ones their bank wants to sell them.
With access to 150+ lending partners, I shop the market so you don't have to. Whether you're buying your first home, investing in real estate, or refinancing to save money — I'm here to make it simple, transparent, and stress-free.
My Story
I didn't come from a finance background. My path to mortgage lending started with a simple realization: the people who need the most help with the biggest financial decision of their lives often get the least guidance.
When I saw friends and family settle for bad loans because they didn't know there were better options, I knew I had to do something. As a mortgage broker — not a bank loan officer — I'm able to shop across 150+ lending partners to find the right fit for each client's unique situation.
What drives me is the moment a client realizes they have options they didn't know existed. Whether it's a first-time buyer discovering they qualify with 3% down, a veteran learning about their VA benefits, or an investor finding a DSCR loan that doesn't require income verification — that "aha" moment never gets old.
How I Work
Education First
I believe informed clients make the best decisions. I'll explain every option in plain English so you never feel overwhelmed or pressured.
Relationship Driven
I'm not here for one transaction. I want to be your mortgage advisor for life — someone you call before every financial move you make.
Radically Transparent
No hidden fees, no bait-and-switch. I disclose everything upfront and walk you through costs line by line. If something doesn't make sense, ask — I love explaining it.

Beyond the Office
I'm proud to serve as Chair of the Pacific West Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network (YPN). I'm passionate about financial literacy, homeownership education, and making sure everyone — regardless of background — has access to the knowledge they need to build wealth.
You'll find me teaching classes for realtors on ADU financing, hosting VA loan workshops, partnering with credit repair specialists, and showing up at community events like Long Beach Pride. This work isn't a marketing strategy — it's who I am.
When I'm not working, you'll probably find me in one of three places. The gym most mornings before anyone's awake. I'm there five or six days a week lifting weights - it's the thing that keeps me grounded. Out back on the Blackstone grilling something for dinner, because most things in life are better with a backyard and a hot flat top. Or hanging out with my daughter, which is the best part of any day and the real reason I work the way I do.
Certifications & Specialized Training
Certified Mortgage Advisor
The CMA designation means I've completed advanced training in mortgage planning — not just finding a loan, but understanding how it fits your bigger financial picture. That includes analyzing income structures, comparing total cost across different loan programs, and making sure the mortgage you choose actually works for how you live. It's the difference between someone who processes paperwork and someone who helps you make a smart decision.
Military & Veteran Lending Certification
Earned through VAREP (Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals), the MVLC certification is specialized training in VA loans and the unique financial situations military families face. That means understanding things like BAH calculations, deployment-related gaps in employment, and how to use VA entitlement to its full potential — including scenarios most lenders don't know how to handle. If you've served, I speak your language.
